Job Opportunity - Caretaker

About the Position

West River United Church located in Cornwall Prince Edward Island is seeking a Caretaker for a two-year term position working part-time hours to a maximum of 13.5 hours per week. Reporting to the Ministry & Personnel Committee, the Caretaker is responsible for the overall cleaning, maintenance and security of the West River United Church building and property.

Responsibilities

• Sweep, wet mop and scrub hard surface floors and stairways

• Dust and wash various surfaces including walls, woodwork, windows, shelves, and cupboards

• Clean and disinfect washroom areas and fixtures

• Replenish supplies including paper towels, toilet paper and liquid soap in washrooms

• Empty compost, waste and recyclable containers and set out bins for pickup

• Contact tradespersons for major repairs

• Clean snow and ice from steps/walkways and spread salt

• General grounds maintenance such as raking leaves and keeping the Church property neat and tidy

• Other related duties as needed

Skills and Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED

• Working knowledge of different cleaning products and tools

• Good verbal communication and interpersonal skills

• Possess an excellent work ethic, proven ability to multi-task and meticulous attention to detail

• Ability to work with minimal supervision

• Physical requirements: standing/walking for extended periods of time; repetitive movements; lift, push or pull up to 20 pounds

Job Opportunity - Office Administrator

About the Position

West River United Church located in Cornwall, Prince Edward Island is seeking a part-time Office Administrator to work 22.5 hours per week. Reporting to the Ministry & Personnel Committee, the Office Administrator is responsible for providing reception, office management and administration services to the West River Pastoral Charge. The day-to-day workload, in part, will be determined through consultation with the ministerial staff and/or committee chairs.

Responsibilities

• Greet and assist visitors and volunteers to the Pastoral Charge office

• Manage and maintain the West River United Church website, online calendars and various social media platforms

• Screen and direct phone calls, voicemail messages and emails

• Pick-up, sort and distribute incoming mail. Prepare and send outgoing mail

• Maintain petty cash and cash for various funds (e.g. Benevolent fund)

• Prepare for Sunday worships which includes, but is not limited to, preparing, formatting, proofreading, assembling and copying weekly bulletins, newsletters and PowerPoint presentation

• Assist funeral directors, as necessary, by providing access and familiarizing them with the facility, as well as, preparing and distributing receipts for donations made through the funeral home

• Maintain various records, statistics and lists such as baptisms, confirmations, weddings, deaths, memberships, etc. Research and respond to requests for information related to such records

• Prepare for distribution various documents including letters, minutes, reports, mailing lists, envelopes, flyers, posters, tickets, sign-up sheets, etc. as requested

• Participate in on-going professional development in office processes, equipment, church administration, computer programs, etc.

• Other related duties as needed

Skills and Qualifications

• Graduate from an Office Administration program

• Minimum of three (3) years’ experience as an office administrator with progressive related experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience

• Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)

• Outstanding verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills

• Possess an excellent work ethic, proven ability to multi-task and meticulous attention to detail

• Possess critical judgement skills when handling confidential issues

• Ability to work with minimal supervision
