West River United Church was honoured to be a part of this national project in 2025 and one of three in PEI. In participating, our goal was to extend a beautiful and creative articulation of the invitation to Jesus’ table in our community of Cornwall.
We transformed a picnic table into a site of welcoming that reflects our church’s century-long commitment to live out God's call to love and serve.
We continue to meet people where they are, both spiritually and physically, at our table to share the Good News.
At West River United Church, we believe in a God who gathers.
A God who makes space.
A God whose welcome shows up where ever people eat, play struggle, and heal.
As we celebrated 100 years as a community of faith, we honoured the past and respond to the God who still calls us forward. This centennial was not a conclusion; it served as an invitation to follow the Spirit beyond memory into movement, beyond tradition into table-shaped ministry.
Jesus traveled to Nazareth, where he had grown up. On the Sabbath day he went to the synagogue as he always did. Jesus stood up to read. The book of Isaiah the prophet was given to him. He opened the book and found the place where this is written:
“The Spirit of the Lord is in me.
This is because God chose me to tell the Good News to the poor.
God sent me to tell the prisoners of sin that they are free,
and to tell the blind that they can see again. Isaiah 61:1
God sent me to free those who have been treated unfairly, Isaiah 58:6
and to announce the time when the Lord will show kindness to his people.” [Luke 4:16–19 rf., Isaiah 58: 6 and 61:1-2]
Here at West River United Church, what we do reaches beyond our walls.
We offer a sense of belonging, of being here together.
Our gatherings are moments of genuine connection, shaped by laughter, story, and care.
And when we set a table, we’re doing more than decorating.
We’re making a visible promise: God’s welcome is real, active, and already among us.
Our theme, A Place at the Table: Celebrating 100 Years of Faith, Fellowship, and Future continues as more than a slogan. It is a theological invitation: to remember, to reimagine, and to re-commit to the Gospel made visible in community.

At West River United Church, we believe everyone deserves a place at the table, not just in theory, but in practice.
The General Council Office of the United Church selected Rev. Franklyn James as one of the 12 disciples to represent our faith community; one committed to welcoming people of all backgrounds, identities and experiences. This reimagination of Da Vinci's Last Supper was commissioned to mark the centennial of the United Church of Canada.
We are pleased to be selected as one of 100 communities of faith across Canada to take part in 100 Tables (see above),
A Place at the Table is a bold call to build communities where no one is left out, overlooked, or forgotten. Whether through worship, shared meals, pastoral care, or justice-seeking, we are committed to creating space that is inclusive, healing, and rooted in love.
